2023-2024 Volunteers are Leading the Way

Author: Peggy Jones

Planning Unit: Rowan County CES

Major Program: Community Vitality and Leadership -FCS

Plan of Work: Youth & Adult Leadership Development

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The problem

  • The need for extra assistance to produce programs

The educational program response

  • In 2021 Kentucky had 796,199 formal volunteers that contributed 53.8 million hours of service through organizations worth an estimated $1.3 billion.  22.6% of residents formally volunteered through organizations.  Volunteers are well needed every month with Rowan County Extension, like many Extension programs in the state of Kentucky agents rely on volunteers to aid in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs. Each month Rowan County Homemakers, coaches and volunteers are being found helping to educate and maintain programs with the agent.  The Family and Consumer Sciences Extension/4-H Agent will continue to generate, educate, maintain, and sustain the leaders. Emphases are on the Rowan County Extension programs to have a strong connection to the community of Rowan County, so new and improved techniques are being taught with today’s youth.  To allow this work to continue our Volunteers have recruited five new members to add to their already working group. Classes and assistance will continue to build and improve with our veteran volunteers leading the way for our new leaders. Programs for these leaders to assist with such as Environmental Camp, Farm Safety Day and Super Star Chef Camp have become 100% successful because of their assistance.
