Many of today’s youth live in larger towns and cities away from farms, some unaware of where the food they eat actually comes from.

Boone County Kentucky is located at the northernmost part of the State and has a population of 139,093 people. 1.   In September 2023, the University of Kentucky’s Boone County Cooperative Extension offered the Farm Frenzy Program to all second and third grade students from Boone County Kentucky. 776 youth attended the three-day Farm Frenzy agriculture based educational program. The youth visited many stations and learned about honeybees, poultry, dairy, beef; horticulture practices; they observed live farm animals such as pigs, chickens, cows, sheep and goats; and participated in a hayride over to their Local farmer’s market. At the Boone County Farmers Market, the youth learned about the wide variety of seasonal produce and locally produced foods that are available and made by the local farmers.

The Farm Frenzy program was a fantastic way to support our local farmers and expose youth to the agriculture community. Building relationships with local farmers and bringing awareness of where the food they eat comes from.
