The problem
I had a request from someone in the community to see if the office might hold a charcuterie board class.
The educational program response
I gauged interest from the community in having a charcuterie board class and found that there was a lot of interest! So much so that we had to have 3 classes to allow everyone to participate.
The participants/target audience
The target audience for this program were people that may not have participated in extension programs before. We had all the charcuterie classes in the evening to allow those who worked to attend. By having several dates we made the class more accessible. We also allowed older 4-Hers to attend if they were interested.
Other partners (if applicable)
We partnered with Shellie Hallock who has the business “The Board Room” in Morehead, KY. She taught all 3 classes and brought all materials for participants to make their own charcuterie board to take home. I passed out publications about the nutritional value of eating cheese and nuts and another publication about making different themed charcuterie boards.
Program impact or participant response.
One of my 4-Hers that attended one of the charcuterie board classes is interested in studying business in college and owning her own business in the future. After attending the class she has since started her own charcuterie board business in our community! She has had great success and is using the money to save up for a car. She told us she uses the skills she learned at the class to make her charcuterie boards. We are so proud of her and the impact the positive impact the charcuterie board classes made! From getting new people into the office to inspiring youth to start their own business!
