Plan of Work: Increasing Farm Profitability- NEW

Pulaski County 4-H introduced a new club to the county in October of 2022. Tractor and Small Engine Club started as a partnership between a local sponsor, Valley Farm Equipment, and our county 4-H program. Valley Farm Equipment has always been willing to lend a hand to sponsor programs or to teach lawn mower and tractor safety during Safety Day events. An employee of Valley Farm Equipment, who is also a 4-H parent, stepped up to volunteer as the club leader. The goal for this club is to prepare Pulaski County's future farmers to safely operate farm equipment, to explore related careers, and to participate in competitions.

The Tractor and Small Engine Club had a successful year with 15 members. 4-Hers learned all about safe equipment use, maintenance, driving, and future careers. Meetings were very hands-on with instruction taking place in a classroom setting and on location at Valley Farm Equipment. This gave youth a look into the plethora of tractors and lawn tractors on the market today. They learned how to operate the equipment on site and got to preview jobs related to tractors and small engines.

Pulaski County hosted both a county level competition and an area competition. Three youth members from Pulaski County showcased their skills at the Kentucky State Fair in August of 2023.

Avery Wesley was the 2023 Lawn Tractor Senior Grand Champion. Taylor Burnett was the 2023 Tractor Senior Grand Champion. Luke Burnett was the 2023 Lawn Tractor Junior Reserve Grand Champion.
