The Fleming County Extension Service Ag Advisory Council had discussed wanting a large program in the community that would be similar to the old June Dairy Days. With collaboration of the Advisory Group and Buffalo Trace County Agents the 2023 Area Farm Field Day came to fruition. The program was geared toward a wide array of topics to provide interest opportunities with a variety of folks. Topics included: All About Bees; General Sheep and Goat Production; Cattle Vaccines; Insect ID; Electric Fencing Demo; Identifying Weeds in Pasture/Hay Fields; High and Low Tunnels, and Utilizing Drones in Production Agriculture. Over 240 folks attended the program for the day which included nearly 100 area High School Agriculture Students.
Area agriculture businesses and groups set up booths at the event to promote their products or services. The Fleming County 4-H members assisted with the setup and tear down of the event as well as assisting with serving the free meal. Many folks expressed gratitude for the event for a time to learn as well as a time to meet with neighbors and gain information to assist with farm management decisions. The Drone session was also of great interest to the folks in attendance due to the opportunity for the need in the area.
One farmer said "Class deal and you all outdid yourself. Very enjoyable and appreciated."
