Summertime is here and that means 4-H summer camp at West KY 4-H Camp! Lyon County 4-H attended 4-H camp on June 6-9 at West KY 4-H Camp in Dawson Springs, KY. Campers ages 9-14 had the opportunity to master new skills such as riflery, swimming, canoeing, fishing, archery, high ropes, cooking, and agriculture. 4-H campers had the chance to gain independence and confidence due to being away from home for a week. There were plenty of fun activities for campers to enjoy such as GaGa Ball, dances, time on the slip-n-slide, Mega Relay games, and experiencing the beautiful outdoors. Campers had the capacity to try new things and make new friends from across the state of Kentucky. 4-Hers learned skills that they will carry throughout their life, such as leadership skills, responsibility skills, communication skills, and confidence. Lyon County 4-H was proud to take 67 campers, 9 teen leaders and 6 adult volunteers. This year Lyon County 4-H is proud to break our record camp attendance with taking a total of 83 individuals. This success could not happen with out all the volunteers that took time out of their busy schedules to make 4-H camp possible. Also many local businesses, individuals and organizations donated money and supplies to the 4-H camp scholarship fund to make camp a possibility for all that wanted to attend. Over $5,000 was donated locally to help make a positive impact in the our youth. Many positive, life-long memories were made at 4-H Camp.
