Youth in Boone County have a growing disconnect with agriculture due to rapid urbanization. Our County Extension Council and District board have also come to this conclusion, so we partnered to put on farm frenzy.

Farm Frenzy is a weeklong field trip event for 2^nd to 3^rd grade students to come and view various stations about the agricultural industry in Kentucky and in Boone County. The stations were: beef cattle, dairy cattle, swine, sheep/goats, horses, tractors, honeybees, gardening, poultry, corn and soybeans, farmers market, and a short hayride to show them the extension faculties.

For this program we partnered with various organizations. Our most important partner was Boone County Schools to handle transport of children and for teachers to lead groups from station to station. We also partnered with local FFA chapters for their students to lead groups and teach a few of the stations. Another partner was a local tractor dealer to have for our tractor station. And our final partner was local farmers that serve on County Extension Council that donated the animals, animal feed and ran the hayrides.

Our target audience was 2nd to 3rd grade aged children that are from urban Boone County area. Over the week we saw 776 2^nd to 3^rd grade children from Boone County as well as 146 adult volunteers.

Over the course of the program the initial outcome is the youth are more knowledgeable about where their food and clothes come from and understand why farmers raise these animals for the benefit of our community, nation, and world population.

The Intermediate outcome of this program was to teach the kids at a young age to respect the animals and farmers that raise food because they all do it to benefit the world population and their community.
