Metcalfe County 4-H Blasting Barrels success through teaching firearm safety. Volunteers play an essential role in many educational programs throughout the Cooperative Extension Service. In the past year certified Shooting Sports volunteers have been dedicated to the youth of Metcalfe County to educate them on firearm safety along the way the youth have also competed in four shooting contest.
The certified shooting sports volunteers in Metcalfe County and shooting sports youth have stepped up and made history. The 22 pistol team received second place at the state contest. The goal for them was to learn firearm safety, to learn positive youth development, and to increase confidence in the youth. This accomplishment was above and beyond our expectations. They have completed this summer in other county meets and the have brought home several awards.
One young man said “This has been awesome, I have learned so much about firearm safety and enjoyed winning trophies.” A volunteer says this is icing on the cake, I kids have learned a lot and are good shooters.
