Major Program: Community Vitality and Leadership – 4-H Youth Development
Plan of Work: Empowering Youth
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
Overall enrollment in Owen County 4-H is good, however after discussions with the County Extension Council, and 4-H Council it was not exactly up to the goal that the Owen County 4-H Agent would like, the groups decided to have an "open house" style event to market 4-H in Owen County.
The educational program response of the ice cream social event entitled "Get the Scoop on 4-H" was unlike anything we'd seen, it was marketed at the schools open house by various 4-H members and volunteers, flyers were mailed out to previously enrolled members, and it was placed on various social media platforms in advance to give families time to plan for this event. This event had over 40 youth and 30-40 adults in attendance. All clubs, programs, camps, and volunteer options were discussed and information on all was given to the individuals that participated. From this event we gained 3 new volunteers and over 30 new 4-H members! The participants/target audience was Owen County Residents or school attendees ages 5-18 and their guardians.
This is an event we will continue to do, and are happy to see the growth in our program because of such!
