The Estill County Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Assistant for the University of Kentucky Nutrition Education Program Partnered with the Estill County Library and Interfaith Wellness in October 2022 to bring a program to Estill County centered around nutritional and mental health. The program was once a month and had 14 participants, the program focused on nutritional needs with Healthy Choices for Everybody Curriculum and recipe samplings from the curriculum and the Plan Eat Move website. The mental health side of the program was supplied by the Mercy Health Local Hospital and Interfaith Wellness. It consisted in a variety of subjects ranging from yoga to natural remedies and plants. The Estill County Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Assistant provided lessons and recipe samples to the participants. Most participants were senior citizens and the program focused mainly on food safety and cooking for 1 or 2 people. At the end of the program 93% of participants had improved their food safety practices.
