The overall goals for the Master Clothing Volunteer (MCV) Program are, to reach, teach, and involved community clientele to affect behavior change and improve family living. To provide in-depth ongoing educational opportunities for volunteers enrolled in the program. To train volunteers who can help local Cooperative Extension professionals with planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in clothing. Finally, to expand current educational offerings and increase outreach opportunities to clientele. The Purchase Area MCV's have always provide quality programming to families within the area. In December of 2022, Robynn Garrett (Marshall Co MCV, class of 2022) came to the group with an idea to help local Mercy Lourdes Health Hospice patient's by making lap quilts for them to have. Working with the local hospice coordinator for Mercy Health the Purchase Area MCV's committed to making 70 quilts to be donated in September of 2023. 

This was a huge undertaking that the MCV's wanted to share with the entire Purchase Area, giving others to opportunity to help in anyway they wanted. Area MCV Contact Agent, Sarah Drysdale, presented the project to other area FCS agents and asked if work days were hosted in their counties if Homemakers and other community members would like to help. From January to mid-July MCV's hosted Hospice Quilt project days in Marshall, Graves, Ballard, McCracken, Calloway, and Hickman counties. For those that could not be there during work days MCV's and Area Contact Agent distributed lap quilt kits with pieces for a top, backing, and batting. In May, the MCV's had reached their commitment number of 70 however there was still plenty of fabric and batting that had been donated and the work days continued and kits still made. 

In total 125 lap quilts were made and donated. Mercy Health Hospice received 117 quilts, 5 quilts went to the Calvert City Police Department, and 3 were displayed at the 2023 Purchase Area Annual Day with 2 being purchased. These quilts will show compassion and care to all the families that receive them throughout the Purchase Area. MCV's are already looking ahead to future area projects and how they can share their love of sewing and brighten someone's day.
