Outcome: Initial Outcome

Native plants, growing in the home landscape, provide habitat and food for wildlife and pollinators. However, people ask, what will native plants look like in my landscape?   To answer this question and to promote adding native plants to the landscape, the Extension Master Gardeners partnered with the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden in Owensboro, KY in developing a 2,800 square foot native plant garden.  One of the Extension Master Gardeners presented the program “I Know Native Plants Are Beneficial to Pollinators, But How Would They Look in My Garden?” during a field day at the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden in September.

A total of 29 attended.  Of the 23 participants who completed a self-assessment survey, 100% were able to recall three native plants discussed for their garden, 93% learned the importance of native plants, and 78% learned which plants would fit into his or her home landscape.  In addition, 95% of the participants plan to add native plants to his or her personal garden.
