4-H Campers

Author: Ashley Duvall

Planning Unit: Clinton County CES

Major Program: Camping

Plan of Work: Healthy & Active Lifestyles: Nutrition & Food Access, Physical & Mental Health

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

One of the greatest successes of 4-H Camp for Clinton County was providing the opportunity for financially struggling families to receive the funding to send their children to camp.  A total of 5 children received full or partial scholarships/donations that granted them the experience that would have otherwise been unattainable. According to the U.S. Census Bureau 2021, Clinton County has 22.6% of our population living in poverty and our students are enrolled in a Title 1 school system according to the U.S. Department of Education.  With these statistics, the experiences and educational opportunities outside of the classroom, for many campers, would not have been possible.  The 4-H camping opportunity provided programs and classes such as cooking, kayaking, archery, rifles, high ropes course, low ropes course, fishing, etc. that will help develop these individuals in building positive lasting impacts of leadership skills and healthy lifestyles moving forward in their future decision-making.  With a record breaking number of campers for our county this summer, we aspire to continue opening up new opportunities of growth for all children with all backgrounds and lifestyles.
