Major Program: Bees/Beekeeping

Plan of Work: Management and Marketing

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The Lincoln County Bee Keeper Association saw the need to host a bee school this spring. Beginning at the end of March through the beginning of May they hosted a Bee School. This program included educational session about honey bee biology, pests and diseases, medications and treatments, hive management, feeding and nutrition, early pest detection, apiary location, hive components, clothing, tools, hive inspection, installing bees, wintering your colony, swarm capture and queen marking. Each session included a different instructor who specialized in the respective topics. We heard from instructors from Kentucky State University, Kentucky Department of Agriculture, and experienced leaders within the bee club. We had classroom discussion along with hands-on hive making. The final session was held on-farm with our keeping equipment where we entered hives for inspection.
