Coffee Chat series on Community Supported Agriculture as a Health and Wellness Benefit

Sarah Geurkink led a 2-part virtual coffee chat series about the University of Kentucky’s (UK) Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Voucher Program, in May and June: 


  • Part 1 on May 22 featured Richard Amos (UK Chief Benefits Officer). Richard shared about the considerations that went into his decision to fund UK's CSA Voucher program, including how the program fits into the larger objectives of a good benefits package (recruiting and retaining employees); how it advances UK’s goals for employee Health and Wellness; and its overall “value on investment”. 
  • Part 2 on June 12 featured Jody Ensman (Director of Health and Wellness) and Vanessa Oliver (Registered Dietician). Jody and Vanessa shared their experience piloting, growing and managing the CSA Wellness program at the UK, including administrative considerations, coordination with other university wellness programs and nutritional education, and their partnership with the Kentucky Farm Share Coalition.

Total registration for both webinars was 89 and the audience included university administrators, technical assistance providers, and CSA Farmers. In just over one month following the discussions, recordings of the coffee chat were viewed a total of 87 times.


Participants had the chance to hear from experts, ask questions, and workshop the unique challenges they face in starting a similar program at their respective institutions.
