Extension Leadership

Author: Kenna Knight

Planning Unit: Pendleton County CES

Major Program: Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association

Plan of Work: Fostering leadership through educational opportunities that build and nurture effective and engaged

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Community service projects and educational leadership by Extension Homemaker members have a major impact in Pendleton County. Extension Homemakers learn leadership skills then use those skills volunteering in the community. In 2017-2018, volunteer service hours were valued at $20.25 per hour. Pendleton County Extension Homemakers reported over 56,783 hours in Extension service, civic, church, school, and other organizations providing the community over $1,114,665.88 in intangible revenue. This was a volunteer increase in over 10,000 hours from the previous year. 58 homemakers held an office in state, county, area and/or club level. 43 reported holding office in other groups using leadership training gained through Extension training. Leaders involved in county support nine local clubs and several community service projects. One of the most significant service projects is filling the need of cancer support in county and a fifth grade “Recipe for Life". Extension programs challenge people to get involved in local issues, to become community leaders and contribute to the social and economic welfare of the community. Extension Homemakers have demonstrated this through their volunteerism.
