Planning Unit: Knott County CES
Major Program: Agriculture
Plan of Work: Ag Production & Natural Resources
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
4-H Chick incubation, embryology and poultry programs have been active in Knott County since 2013. Reaching thousands of youth during that time. One 4-Her started with the program in middle school, now in college, runs his own KY Proud Poultry Farm.
Our goal was to provide new resources for classroom volunteers and our participants. Through the Kentucky 4-H Foundation's Ag Mini Grant program, we purchased the OSU Poultry Learning Lab Kit. The kit proved to support our poultry programs on a new level. The visuals were especially helpful.
The spring program was delivered at a 4-8 after school program and our two high schools, reaching 257 youth.
We focused on the following evaluation goals;
- 257 youth demonstrated a skill that was learned or improved by participating in 4-H agriculture programming
- 257 youth gained an understanding of the role of agriculture in the production of food, fiber, and wood products
- 240 youth who indicated “yes or usually” to the Common Measures Experience Survey Question #6 “Is 4-H A place where you get to figure out things for yourself?”
- 197 youth who indicated “yes or usually” to the Common Measures Experience Survey Question #13 “Is 4-H a place where you have a chance to be a leader?”
Knott county's 4-H poultry programs have seen constant success over the last 10 years. The program benefited immediately using these new resources. We are thankful for the opportunity for continual progress.
