Horse Clubs are a 4-H staple with multiple objectives. Participants learn about everything horse, including horsemanship. At the same time, they are developing as leaders, practicing self-reliance, and sportsmanship while promoting a greater love of animals and a humane treatment toward them. The Daviess County Young Riders 4-H Horse Club meets monthly throughout the school year. Club meetings always include horse education. Their Certified Volunteer Leader was a former 4-H Horse Club member. Last Fall, one of the clubs’ members was named Junior Miss Rodeo Kentucky 2023 at age 13. There were many facets to the competition including demonstrating horsemanship, interviews, and ultimately a written test to establish the contestants horse knowledge. This young lady has been a member of the Daviess County 4-H Young Riders since the age of 9. She has served as club president and participated in horse camps, riding clinics, and won the high point award in her division at the District 6 4-H Horse Show three times in a row. She credits 4-H with helping her to make the highest score on the written test and ultimately winning the Junior Miss Rodeo Kentucky contest.
