Plan of Work: Develop Henry County
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
With the Henry County Extension Office fully staffed, the goal this past year was to Share our Story! The Extension Staff participated in numerous community events to share the mission of the Cooperative Extension Service. Each community event was unique as the Henry County Extension Office Staff participated in each activity sharing upcoming events and programs.
The first community event the Henry County Staff participated in was the pig wrestling challenge at the County Fair. The roles were divided among the staff as marketing manager, coordinator, and wrestlers. It was a fun event for community members to remember the Extension Staff and recognize our logo! The second community event was the Tractor Parade; the staff and 4-H teens decorated a tractor using lots of lights, two antlers, and shiny red nose! The Henry County Extension Agents passed out candy to tractor parade goers while walking with the Cooperative Extension Service banner. The third community event displayed resources from the Extension Office & the Henry County Homemakers: pens, cups, recipes, and more. This event is Kentucky’s longest-running, all-local agricultural festival, the Henry County Harvest Showcase. Finally, to wrap up the year, the Henry County Extension Staff participated in a hay bale decorating contest at a local creamery. The Extension Staff chose to promote healthy eating and nutrition by creating a blue truck with Wally Cat driving and passing out recipe cards and promotional material to eating healthy!
The idea of participating in these community events has increased participation within Extension programs, has increased foot traffic within the Extension Office and has made more residents of Henry County aware of what and who the Extension Office is. The Cooperative Extension Office has been around for decades and will continue to be a secret if you are not involved in the community!
