Center for Crop Diversification Collaboration Results in Regional Elderberry Publication

Author: Christy Cassady

Planning Unit: Horticulture

Major Program: Small Farm Diversification

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The University of Kentucky’s Center for Crop Diversification (CCD) worked with Tennessee’s Center for Profitable Agriculture (CPA) and West Virginia University to develop a regional publication, Commercial Production of Elderberry, in the winter and spring of 2023. The CCD’s crop profile on elderberry was significantly expanded to include new and more detailed production, marketing and market outlook, and economic information, including estimated cash flows and costs and returns. Extension personnel from The Ohio State University and the University of Missouri provided photos for the regional publication that complemented photos from UK and the CPA. The result was a more robust publication than the CCD’s original fact sheet that will benefit growers interested in pursuing elderberry production in multiple states. The regional publication was posted on the CCD website on June 14th and by July 11th, Commercial Production of Elderberryhad 61 unique pageviews (the number of sessions during which the page was viewed at least once).
