Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
One of the task that was ask by the producers of Pulaski county of the new Agriculture and Natural Resources agent was to start running articles in the local paper like the horticulture and FCS agent does.
To honor this request we started a weekly newspaper article that runs in the Sunday paper, and online at the commonwealth journals website and the ANR page of the extension website. These articles try to reach a wide variety of topics, while also hitting topic that are related at the time or that help us recruit producers to certain educational opportunities. Articles use information gathered from University Specialist at the University of Kentucky or other University’s across the United States.
On a weekly basis the paper on Sunday’s reaches about 10,000 customers. With these articles the extension service as seen a great deal of positive feedback about the article from local producers and those that just find the topics interesting and want to know more. One article on wrapping hayledge also gained interest from producers in Wisconsin, England, and New Zeeland.
With the articles there has also been an increase in the number of people contacting the office for more information on programs or to be added to mailing list.
These weekly articles has really been a positive outcome for the extension service as a whole.
