Inc. Farm Classes

Author: Jennifer Palmer

Planning Unit: Jefferson County CES

Major Program: Community Gardens and Horticulture Therapy

Plan of Work: Accessing healthy foods & improving local food systems

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The problem  -  Farmers wanting to grow and sell at farmers market and eventually sell enough to have this as a full-time job.   Creating markets to sell produce to for produce farmers that grow on a small scale.

The educational program response was engaging over the weekly sessions as they are learning the varying materials that covered business and marketing courses to crop and pest management. We had a range of guest speakers from KCARD and area restaurants so the farmers could create business connections to sell their produce to.

The participants/target audience – New American Farmers

Other partners (if applicable)  - Common Earth Gardens with Catholic Charities

Program impact or participant response. The program allowed the participating farmers to create a business plan and to apply and sell at farmers markets at the end of the program. For farmers that did not have access to land we worked on finding land for them to grow on.
