Edmonson County is a very rural, sparsely populated county and a large percentage of that population works outside of the county. Even so, the residents of the county have a wide range of interests and needs related to agriculture. In an effort to address as many of those needs and interests as possible, the County Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources offered a multitude of educational opportunities, that included state and regional programs such as the Southern Kentucky Pesticide Training School, Beef Quality and Care Assurance, as well as local, county agent programs which include Fertilizer Decisions for Hay & Pasture, Beef Cattle Feeding & Nutrition, Farm Fencing & On Farm Water Enhancement, Weed Control in Pastures and Hayfields, Dealing with Fescue Toxicosis, as well as several others. The Agent made about 20 site/farm visits. Around 350 people attended educational sessions or were present at farm/site visits.
In mostly verbal evaluations of the county agent programs and farm visits, More than 92% of participants indicated that they gained knowledge and would make decisions based on that knowledge. More than 30 people were first time Extension users. 100% of participants also indicated that they would attend future programs.
This was a very trying year, as the Agent was often the only person in the office, but still
served the clientele to the best of his ability. He also took care of Homemakers and some FCS duties as well as 4-H/Youth Development.
