Outcome: Initial Outcome

In our small community, there is little to do for entertainment.   For those who work or can drive to other places, it is a small problem.

However, we have several in our community who cannot work because of their developmental disabilities.

Once these community members graduate high school, they have limited social interaction, and often, their learning is halted.   Working with the high school special education teacher, we identified several adults who had graduated and would benefit from participating in a club addressing social and life skills. Meeting with the guardians, we identified goals for the classes to work on increasing their knowledge of life skills and appropriate life skills.

Our local Chamber of Commerce is working with us to teach the skills in their industries and help develop the club members' skills. Other agents are collaborating to bring their expertise to the club as well. Our goals are to enrich the lives of these community members, help them find interests, and expand their skills.

The group members have expressed excitement about having their group. A few members also asked if we could do community service projects, which we are currently planning. A secondary outcome is that the guardians have expressed comfort in gathering with people in the same situation while knowing their loved ones are safe, learning, and having fun.
