The year started off great with a new group that wanted to do programming at the Rosenwald 4-H Youth Development Center. Being a first for both the 4-H Team and the Homeschool group, The Homeschool Groups have always gotten together to do programming at a different location. The parents wanted to try something new and give their children the opportunity to do things that they couldn't provide at the time. This partnership all started at the Farmer's Market where the Homeschool Group leaders saw the 4-H team doing hands-on activities and asked if we could do specialized programming. This partnership led to a six month program that serviced over 30 kids bi-weekly and up to 10 parents doing trainings. Our job was to  train the parents and train them on specific content that they wanted to teach their children. Afterwards, they would use the 4-H curriculum to teach to their children a day or two after it was taught to them. This turned out to be something really great and easy for the parents. Parents now had access to materials that they didn't have, they were working together more as a group, and majority of the content being taught was 4-H curriculum from Kentucky State University's 4-H state office. When asked in the beginning, only 5 out of the 30 kids were involved in 4-H programming. The question was asked again after the program was over and 100% of all the kids stated they have a sense of belonging with 4-H now and appreciate that they had the opportunity to come to the Rosenwald 4-H Youth Development Center here in Frankfort, KY. The parents are eager to set up new programs in the fall not only with us but with other Extension departments as well.
