Outcome: Initial Outcome

The horse and livestock industry in Kentucky continues to play an important role in our state’s economy and culture. Over 55% of agricultural sales in Kentucky are from horses, cattle, poultry, and animal products (such as eggs, wool, and milk) (Ky Food and Farm Files, n.d.).

Ninety-four counties across Kentucky have 4-H livestock and/or horse projects and clubs.

In March of 2023, the Kentucky 4-H Program partnered with Kentucky Agriculture and Environment in the Classroom, Inc. (KyAEC) to offer two in-service workshops for Extension staff and volunteers that focused on horse and livestock education. The objective of the in-service was to provide participants with accurate, Kentucky-based agricultural curricula that is easily incorporated into existing horse and livestock clubs and projects. Twenty-six participants attended and took part in hands-on activities. These participants received curricula and resources to take back and use in their county. In addition, participants became members of the Kentucky Ag Literacy Network (which provided access to numerous KyAEC lessons and activities).
