According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the early years of a child’s life are very important for later health and development, and parents and caregivers need support and the right resources to aid in that development. In April and May the Area Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences participated in events for new and expecting parents in Metcalfe, Logan, and Simpson Counties. Families received resources to track developmental milestones and tips on reaching out for assistance with their children’s development. Families also received story books geared toward specific developmental stages that included specific actions they could take to promote their children’s development. After these events, 153 families improved their knowledge of child developmental stages and techniques to encourage positive development. One parent said "I’m so glad to have this [milestone tracker]. I have been trying to figure out what [my child] should be doing at each age, and I can take this with me to doctor appointments.”
