A day on the hill for The Hilltop Group. The 4-H Youth Development team had a wonderful opportunity to host a special summer day camp for a group of 15 students from Elizabethtown Kentucky. This was a great opportunity for the students because a lot of them have never been anywhere outside of their town. Their day consisted of doing 4-H programs at the Rosenwald 4-H Youth Development Center, visiting the Aquaculture Center, taking an historic tour of the state capital and meeting two state legislators, and to top it off they had a special visit to the university farm. The students that attended 100% of them said they were new to 4-H and 86% of them agreed that they thought 4-H would be a place to figure things out.
While visiting the 4-H Youth Development Center the students were introduced to an engaging robots program and other youth based activities. The whole time while they were at the center students kept asking when could they come back to do more programs. These students were very impressed with the amount of programs that were offered here and wanted to learn more. Towards the end of the day a quick 5 question survey was created and given to the students at the end of the day. The results said, 13 out of the 15 students were more or maybe interested in learning about science, engineering, and technology and 53.33% of the students said they had some sort of interest in agriculture, and 14 out of 15 students felt that 4-H could be a place where you have a chance to be a leader. These results indicated that the students had a wonderful time here at university and hopefully a long term partnership can be developed for future programs for the Hilltop Center of Elizabethtown.
