Caregivers and the elderly are often unaware of resources and challenges they may face with later or end of life decisions. Many extension homemaker members have faced similar challenges with aging parents or family members and worked with the extension family and consumer sciences agent to organize a series of programs focused in this area.   To bring awareness and accurate educational information to this demographic, two classes were offered in this area The first session featured an eldercare lawyer who spoke about the importance of a power of attorney,  a medical power of attorney, asset distribution, trusts, long term care and other related areas.  The session was well received with 90% of attendees indicating they received information they were completely unaware of prior to attending.  95% indicated they plan to take action either by creating or updating existing information to protect assets and plan for the future.

The second session focused on scams and safety awareness.  The session was presented by the local sheriff, city police chief and two lead detectives from the sheriff's department.  They spoke about local scams and trends and ways to avoid being taken advantage of as well as how and to who to report an incident.  80% of those attending indicated they gained valuable information and felt confident they would be able to address and issue should one arise.
