Sharing Stream Improvement and Protection Challenges and Successes Across the Wolf Run Watershed

Author: Lee Moser

Planning Unit: Agriculture and Natural Resources Programs

Major Program: Water and Soil Quality and Conservation

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Dr. Amanda Gumbert and Lee Moser partnered with a local Fayette County, Kentucky citizen watershed group, Friends of Wolf Run, to document various stream improvement projects around the watershed. The project focused on five sites throughout the watershed. Video was captured at each of the sites with high resolution drone and traditional video camera footage, along with interviews from key stewards at each of the sites. The video products and associated interviews were produced to inform citizens about the reason for the projects, some of the challenges, some of the successes, and to provide a general call to action to get engaged in stream and watershed improvement and protection activities in the Wolf Run Watershed. Each of the five videos were embedded within an interactive web map that will become a part of Friends of Wolf Run’s website and will be used across social media platforms to engage audiences on the work being done in the watershed. The project was well-received across stakeholder groups and plans are in the works to expand the project to feature an additional five stream improvement projects across the watershed in 2024. This project was funded through a Lexington Fayette Urban County Government Stormwater Quality Projects Incentive Grant Program.
