The problem and the educational program response

Many kids today are uneducated on the subject of drones and what they do for us. There are hundreds of uses for drones and not many people know what they can be used for. The drone industry is a growing field, especially in the agriculture sector. There will be many job availabilities in the future within this industry, so making sure the upcoming workforce is aware of these opportunities is important.

The participants/target audience

The participants for this event include Chalybeate Elementary kids aged 1st grade through 5th grade along with agents from Edmonson County and Drone specialists from Kentucky State University.

Program impact or participant response.

For this event. kids were split into groups and were rotated through different stations. My station was the drone station where we did several things. First, we talked about what drones were used for and different ways they could possibly be used. We talked about different jobs where we could use drones in the future. Also, we looked into how we could incorporate drones into our current jobs or aspirations. Students then were able to fly their own drone via an ipad controller which they really enjoyed. To close we demonstrated what a nice fancy drone can do and the kids were amazed! This day camp helped to educate students on what drones can be used for and even influenced a few kids to want to use these in their job when they grow up.
