Major Program: Master Clothing Volunteer

Plan of Work: Improving Physical, Health and Mental Well-Being--2020

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Many studies have shown that sewing is not only a productive life skill and hobby, but that it can be a stress reliever and can increase a person’s feeling of self-worth. Currently Quicksand Area has nine Master Clothing Volunteers (MCV) who share their skills with others either in their respective counties or in the Quicksand Area.

Each volunteer works closely with their County Extension Office to teach and lead a variety of sewing programs. Quicksand Area Master Clothing Volunteers supported Extension programming through an area program- Come Sew with Us that was held in Leslie and Lee Counties.  Each Master Clothing Volunteer taught three sessions at each location.  As well as teaching the classes they were responsible for all preparation of classes.  End of session evaluation showed that 79% learned a new skill taught during Come Sew with Us and 75% plan to use that new skill at home.

The nine Master Clothing Volunteers reported for the year 1968 total contacts, 610 hours in Teaching and Preparation, 424 hours in Continuing Education, and 510 hours in Leadership and Service. Based on the value of volunteer time ($24.83 per hour), this is a contribution worth $36,729.78 to their communities and to the Cooperative Extension Services.
