The Lawrence County Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) Senior Assistant taught the LEAP program with Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students at Louisa East and Louisa West Elementary Schools. LEAP program is designed to help children learn healthy behaviors at a young age. The SNAP-Ed assistant was able to read a story and provide a healthy snack related to the storybook to each child. All the students enjoyed the story books and were able to test on the books for accelerated reader points.
There was a total of 108 students that participated. Each student was given a pre and post evaluation. The results showed that 83% improved knowledge related to handling food safely and 86% improved on diet quality.
