Planning Unit: Boyd County CES

Major Program: Farm Management, Economics and Policy

Plan of Work: Forage, Crop and General Agricultural Practices

Outcome: Initial Outcome

With the easing of the meeting restrictions, we were able to once again have our Ag Appreciation Breakfast. This is held, usually, on an annual basis in the spring right before life gets very busy on the farm. It is open to the public, but specifically is targeted at local farmers and their families and local businesses that they would do business with. This year we had 94 people in attendance. In addition to a large traditional breakfast, the highlight of the event is usually the featured speaker. This it it was two representatives of Revolutionary Racing, which is the entity that is building the first full time dedicated quarter horse racing track in Kentucky in many decades.

They showed designs for the track, as well as talked about thje potential benefits it could have for the local fam community. This included selling supplies, such as hay, to the track. Also in the potential demand for farms to use for housing various business associated with horse racing. These could include brood mare farms or stud farms or even training farms. After many questions from the audience and answers from the RR reps, it was evident that there is great potential for the farmers locally to increase their income or marketing options when this venture comes to fruition.
