The Nutrition Education Program Supplemental Nutrition Assistant in Magoffin County works with the Framers Market to help people understand the importance of fresh fruits and vegetables. Each week presenting a tasty Plate it Up Kentucky Proud Recipe for everyone to sample. When choosing the recipe available produce items are selected according what is in season and available for purchase. Of the average sixty people who stop at the Magoffin County Farmers Market 95% of them do sample the recipe. With the other 5% saying they can’t eat the food items due to health reason or just don’t like an item in the recipe. Everyone is eager each week to see what the Nutrition Education Program Supplemental Nutrition Assistant has for them to sample. There are several participants that attend weekly showing interest in what new recipe is available and have stated they made one of the earlier samples at home. Just being able to know how to prepare different recipes and use a variety of fresh food items will help others in our community make healthier choices one plate at a time.
