Master Gardeners Providing Quality Programs
The Henderson County Master Gardener Program continues to serve the community through several avenues. In 2022, the MG’s offered 10+ programs with hands on training for home gardeners. Topics included herbal teas, growing gourds, composting, growing garlic, Japanese maples, growing figs in KY, as well as a three part vegetable garden series. Over 100 total participants learned about growing successful home gardens with a concentrated effort to encourage reduced pesticide usage.
Following every class, several phone calls and office visits resulted indicating the success of the classes. Participant’s questions ranged from “where to I purchase hardy fig trees” to “what kind of material do I put into my compost”. Based on the office call log, it is estimated that over 36 class participants called or visited the Henderson County Extension office for more information.
The Master Gardners also continue to Host the annual plant sale where they raise money to support their scholarship program, grow the food bank vegetable garden, and support the overall mission of the group. 2022 plant sale raised just over $5200 with over 120 attendees. Included with the plant sale were garden information displays where attendees could sign up to request more information about selected topics. 54 attendees signed up to receive more information.
