According to the 2019 Community Needs Assessment, one of the top  issues for Hart County were more youth life skills training (money management, life decision making)  To help in this areas all 5th grade youth participated in the Dollars and Sense Program during the 2022-2023 school year.

Hart County had over 150 youth who participated in the Dollars and Sense Program. Members of the Hart County 4-H Teen Club volunteered as booth workers at each of the five elementary schools.

The 4-H It’s Your Reality (Dollars and Sense) Curriculum focuses on engaging youth in real life, age-appropriate budgeting scenarios. Each student is given an allowance and learns how to put budget-making purchases with the allowance.  The youth then have the responsibility of purchasing needs and wants in accordance with their budget at the Dollars and Sense school enrichment program.

Evaluations of the youth showed that 90% of students reported they will think about the cost of an item before purchasing it. Many youth also expressed that they did not realize how expensive fast food and pets were.
