Homemakers Membership

Planning Unit: Oldham County CES

Major Program: Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association

Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Due to Covid and the loss of clubs, Oldham County Homemakers experienced a significant decrease in membership. There was a loss of 85 of their 141 members resulting in a 60% decrease.   The Oldham County Family Consumer Science Agent worked with the Homemaker President on activities to increase membership.   During Homemakers Week, a Meet-n-Greet was held.  The FCS Agent planned programming that could potentially become a Homemakers club.   There was a beginning Crochet class that quickly became a club. There was a Cookbook club that started as a monthly program; at the beginning of each meeting, the FCS agent would share information about the Homemakers club, explain that this program would be an excellent idea for a club, and all that was needed was a club president, vice president, and secretary.  By the second meeting, a club president and vice president, who were new acquaintances, volunteered to serve.

The FCS agent and Homemakers President also contacted the previously established clubs that had left before and during Covid.  Two clubs came back.

Overall, the number of Homemakers increased by 28 % in 2023.

Oldham County Homemakers plan to continue our efforts and follow this pattern in adding clubs and members to our county.
