Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Each year  the Boyd County Master Gardeners have the opportunity to enter a gardening photo contest for a chance for their photo submissions to be featured in the annual Master Gardener Calendar.  This calendar has been published annually since 2017 by the Boyd County Extension Agent for Horticulture as a tool to help home gardeners better plan and grow successful gardens, landscapes, lawns and anything gardening related for the area in Zone 6b.  It is also a tool to advertise the local Master Gardener Club meetings, classes, the beekeepers meetings and programs and any other annual programs featured through the county extension horticulture program.  Included in the calendar are not only beautiful gardening pictures but also timely gardening information about items such as when to plant certain crops, at what time or stage of growth to control pests from insects to weeds and also general gardening information for the growing zone we are located in.  This calendar has become so popular that the requests for upcoming years calendars will start in November and several hundred will be handed out or mailed out to those who rely on the calendar and its information to be able to perform their garden tasks at the correct time.  A prime example of this was during a recent garden show where participants from the tri-state area (OH, WV, and KY) visit the local Master Gardener informational booth requesting one of these calendars stating "I depend on this calendar each spring to know when to plant my garden crops and when to watch for specific insects and diseases so that I can be proactive at controlling them to help increase my garden yields."
