Planters Bank "Season of Giving" was a Win, Win for All

Author: Rhonda Jewell

Planning Unit: Caldwell County CES

Major Program: Flood Relief & Recovery

Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Caldwell County 4-H was selected by Planters Bank of Princeton to be the beneficiary of their seasonal fundraiser titled “Season of Giving”.    Planters Bank chooses a non-profit each fall to be the recipient of the fundraiser.  The bank collected donations from the public and then matched the value of those donations; then the bank would donate that amount to the non-profit of their choice.

The 4-H Teen Council had the idea to “give back” to others that had been so kind during our time of need in December 2021 when West Kentucky was hit by a devastating tornado. Donations were collected for the flood victims in Eastern Kentucky.  The fundraiser went from October through December.  The donations collected included hand-sewn quilts, baby blankets, backpacks, personal care products, stuffed toys, cleaning products along with many other items.   The value of the items totaled $8,113.   This amount is what was then donated to the 4-H Council.  Two Teen Council members and the 4-H agent loaded and delivered all of the donations to the Letcher County Extension Office where items would be dispersed.

This was a win, win opportunity.  The 4-H Council received a very large monetary donation to be used for programming in the county and there were many items that were donated to the flood victims of Eastern Kentucky,
