Outcome: Initial Outcome

For over a decade, the Pennyroyal Master Gardener Association has created a gardening calendar available for the community to learn more about growing plants.  Each year, the master gardener group forms a committee and decides on a particular topic to focus on for the next year’s calendar.   Previous years have showcased bulbs, deer-resistant plants, trees, and much more.  This year’s calendar features vegetable plants.  Once the topic is decided, the committee requests pictures of the specific topic from members of the association and organizes the pictures for the appropriate month of the calendar.  Committee members research the plants and provide an educational paragraph that goes with the picture which details the scientific name, plant family, country of origin, growth characteristics, and growing care.  Once all the pictures and educational information are finalized, the calendar is created and assembled at the Hopkins County Extension Office.  Several hundred calendars are printed and available for free to the public.   Calendars are distributed through the office, educational programs and classes, and extension events.
