4-H Teens Leading Change

The National 4-H Summit for Healthy Living National 4-H Summit brings teen health leaders from across the country to focus on learning about and solving healthy living issues impacting homes homes, community and economy. The Summit provides the opportunity for teens develop the knowledge and skills to address todys issues facing nutrition education, physical fitness, wellness and emotional well being. Participants developed community action plans, participated in community service projects and Washington D.C field trips.

Kentucky State University 4-H Jefferson Co. was able to take 4 youth participants to the summit which was held April 21-24, 2022 in Bethesda Maryland. The 4 youth participants, in partnership with adult mentors were provided the opportunity to develop, present and implement a 4-H Teens Leading Change(TLC) Project in their communities. The team representing Kentucky State University 4-H with assistance from Louis Milligan, 4-H Agent Jefferson Co./Louisville submitted a proposal  for review and a 3 minute video discussing their project.. The students submitted their proposal and their project was selected to receive $1,500 implementation Award which will allow the young men to implement their project in Jefferson Co. The proposal focused on food desserts in Louisville and ways for people to receive healthy food options. The students also received an additional $500 to assist with implementation without any barriers because they were so impressed by the students representing KSU 4-H.

The students were able to learn valuable leadership skills as a result of their participation in Summit which was made possible by Kentucky State University Extension Program and 4-H Youth Development,
