4-H Livestock is a fun family oriented activity that engages exhibitors to enhance life skills such as public speaking, self-confidence, time management and responsibility. The 4-H Livestock program just completed its 12th year with 31 exhibitors. The program has had exhibitors show at other county fairs across the commonwealth as well as, the Kentucky State Fair and North American International Livestock Expo in Louisville, Kentucky. The future of the program is very bright with expectations that it will grow over the next year. In addition to the program’s success three adult volunteers went to Lake Cumberland State Resort Park on November 19th, 2016 to become Certified Volunteer Livestock Leaders and help conduct educational learning sessions from January 12th thru October 5th, 2017. 2017 was a one day show and sale that took place on August 31st at the Elliott County 4-H Farm-Credit Livestock Pavilion. K-6th grade students from Sandy Hook. Lakeside and Isonville Elementary Schools were bused to the 4-H Livestock Pavilion throughout the day to see their classmate’s 4-H projects and learn about the Elliott County 4-H Livestock program. Students, teachers, and spectators were also provided the opportunity to purchase concessions from the Elliott County 4-H Livestock Council where concessions raised a total amount of $2,489.30 will all proceeds going to the Elliott County 4-H Livestock Council. This year exhibitors showed a rabbit meat pen, chicken meat men, cattle, goats and sheep that were judged by Dr. Ken Culp III. Exhibitors participated in showmanship, meat classes, breeding classes and round robin showmanship. Exhibitors have the option to sale their projects at the end of the show. 2017 auction receipts totaled $19,250.00 with all proceeds going to the exhibitors to support his or her hard work.
