Major Program: Farm Management, Economics and Policy

Plan of Work: Financial Stability in Henry

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Agriculture economics has been of significant interest to the farmers of Henry County. My first program as a new agent was a basic record-keeping class. I had very positive feedback on that program, which encouraged me to offer more advanced programming in agriculture economics. A pre-survey of the clientele indicated only a basic understanding of farm taxes. Even after a date and location change for the class, I had 37 in attendance. Jonathan Sheppard, UK Business Management Specialist taught the class. As participants signed up, I asked them what they wanted to gain from the class. Most indicated needing more information on the basics, while a few others had some specifics such as liabilities and farm income averaging. I relayed this information to Jonathan, and he made his presentation to match those expectations. At the conclusion of the class, I heard various positive comments. A few weeks later, I sent out a Qualtrics survey. I had 18 responses. Six of the respondents indicated that they had “very little knowledge of farm taxes” before the class and seven respondents indicated that they had “ A decent understanding of farm taxes” before the class. 100% of the respondents to that question indicated an improvement in their understanding of farm taxes, with nine indicating that they had “an understanding of MOST topics in farm taxes” after the class. 82% of the respondents indicated that they somewhat agree or strongly agree that something they learned in the class will save them money with their farm.
