Chop Chop Magazine: A great resouce

Author: Joyce Doyle

Planning Unit: Carroll County CES

Major Program: Health

Plan of Work: Nutrition and Fitness

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Chop Chop Magazines are my best resource for nutrition lessons. Children love the games and all the colorful pictures, and the parents and teachers love the recipes.   Mrs. Hamilton, Cartmell Elementary teacher,  posted the following on the school’s Facebook page. “#PantherLeaderUnit3 is underway, wrapping up its first 8 day rotation. We ended our last day together by trying a healthy drink recipe from the #ChopChop Kids Healthy Eating Recipe Magazine provided by our Carroll County Cooperative Extension Service.  The kids get so excited over this magazine.  We appreciate Joyce Doyle coming into the classroom and  making sure we get these magazines each season.  The recipe tried today was the Grapefruit Fizz. Most of my students liked it and some even asked for seconds.”

Following up with this lesson:  Out of 145 students ninety % of the students liked it and  35 % wanted seconds.”  The children were excited to try the drink but some liked it better than others.
