2023 Winter Ag Conference
The Winter Agriculture Conference is a meeting that has taken place for several years previously. However, there has been a 3 year break due to Covid and bad weather. It is a multi-county, as well as multi-organization event. This year, we teamed up with adult agriculture educators from WKCTC to bring an informational meeting to the farmers in Western Kentucky. The meeting was hosted in Pilot Oak, Kentucky by Lowry farms. Agriculture agents from Graves, Fulton, Calloway, Hickman, McCracken, Marshall, and Carlisle County hosted the Winter Agriculture Conference. The program consisted of Alex Hayes with a 2023 Grain Market Outlook, Matt Dixon with Weather in Kentucky, Dr. John Grove with Sulfur use in Corn and Soybeans, Dr. Carl Bradley with Soybean and Wheat Disease Update, and Dale Dobson with Farm Safety and The Power of a Handshake. Lunch and door prizes were provided by product vendors and sponsors on site. After lunch, a separate meeting for the Dicamba training was held. 102 producers attended the conference. A survey was done and 88% found the sessions valuable or very valuable. 100% of respondents gained knowledge from the speakers and 98% of them will apply something they learned to their farming practices. Although attendance was lower this year, the hope is to build the Winter Ag Conference back up again after the multi-year break.
