Plan of Work: Community Leadership
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
One-hundred twenty-five juniors at KCCHS, participated in 4-H Build Your Future program. The students learned about the components needed to apply for colleges and careers, and how to gather them in a personal portfolio. They also explored career opportunities, discovered their areas of career interest through surveys, and walked through the parts of a resume, as well as obtaining tips that employers are looking for in an employer-ready resume.
Results for college and career readiness skills:
90% --I can identify my life skills related to 4-H projects, activities, and hobbies.
91%-- I am aware of the careers in the various career pathways.
96% --I can identify potential careers in my field of interest.
84% --I understand what should be included in a college/career portfolio.
78% --I have gathered the necessary components for a portfolio.
94% --I am aware of what employers look for in job applications and resumes.
83% --I know how to market myself in a resume.
67% --Have created an “employer ready” resume beyond our fill-in resume form.
Although, I was initially concerned to see that only 67% of participants created an “employer ready” resume beyond our fill-in resume form, prior to the program, only 11% had an “employer ready” resume, so 67% was a significant increase. Also noted, 11% all reported an increase in knowledge on how to market themselves better in a resume.
Overall program data showed positive outcomes and the youth demonstrated that in their finished products.
