Quilters’ Day Out 2023
Magoffin County Extension’s two quilt guilds were hosts for the area’s Quilters’ Day Out this year. A group of twenty-two ladies have worked for two years in preparation for hosting this event, as volunteers. They worked many hours, sewing and quilting table runners for all of the tables which were also used as door prizes. They made and quilted catch-all boxes for 125 people as favors, and donated items for a silent auction and items to put into the gift bags with the favors, and hours and hours of hard work getting prepared for the event. In addition, they did fund raisers to provide a free lunch of pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, cole slaw, cupcakes and drinks for all who attended. The venue was decorated beautifully, with the theme of “After the Rain, Comes the Rainbow”. Sixteen volunteers from the quilt guilds took care of registration, serving food, and serving as masters of ceremony for the Quilter’s Day Out. Ninety-nine ladies from Magoffin, Martin, Floyd, Johnson and Pike counties all gathered together on March 18, to show their beautiful quilted works of art, and to share stories about how they were made, the patterns that they used and their purposes. There were 12 vendors who set up booths to sell all kinds of fabrics, quilting tools, scented soaps and Pampered Chef products. The Quilters’ Day Out was a huge success, and as a result we gained 7 new members of the guilds and of our Homemaker’s clubs. We even had a teenage girl who came to be a part of the quilt guild. We are very excited for the support of our volunteers and the increase in our numbers.
