4-H Alumni Embroidery Classes

Planning Unit: Campbell County CES

Major Program: Volunteer Development

Plan of Work: 4-H Youth Development - Leadership

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

A new group of 4-H volunteers is in progress due to the offering of multiple adult embroidery classes. After a Facebook post yielded multiple requests for an adult class for embroidery, an initial class was held. 14 adults attended this class and enjoyed themselves so much that they stayed over an hour longer than the class end time. All of the attendees had been involved in 4-H either as youth or volunteers with various programs and projects such as camp, clubs, and fair projects. A majority of the attendees had some experience with embroidery. Some had never tried the needle work craft but caught on quickly and completed the provided project. Ten of the attendees have continued to meet once a month and have started projects of their own or bring other needle crafts to the group to mingle and stitch with each other. At least 3 of the attendees have also attended the youth embroidery series to help them with needle threading, knot untying, and other needs of the youth. One of the participants has recruited two of her fashion design high school students to help with the youth series; they will also receive service hours.
