Educating our community Through Art

Author: Christina A. Martin

Planning Unit: Russell County CES

Major Program: Arts and Community Health

Plan of Work: Skills Development through Youth Development

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Russell Co. 4-H youth created a collaborative art project for display for heart health month (February).  Three hundred sixty-five youth, created Piet Mondrian hearts using the primary color pallet.  By looking at the work of this artist, youth could see how primary colors can be used in art-making.  These hearts were displayed at Russell County Public Library along with Cooperative Extension Service literature related to cardiovascular health; the public was also provided with CES heart-healthy recipes.

Conveying messages through art matters to all ages.  Art can help inform, inspire, and persuade others to take action.  Art can also help us remember a message for longer periods of time than just reading printed material.
